Health checks can be much more ambitious. This is precisely what Spotify founder Daniel Ek and Hjalmar Nilsonne are proposing, who recently launched a new startup called Neko Health and are now beginning to arrive in other regions. The question is, of course, how they want to achieve this.
From Sweden to the United Kingdom. Neko Health started its activity in Stockholm, and in the last twelve months it has opened two clinics that have apparently had remarkable success. Now the startup is opening its first clinic in London. The word neko means “cat” in Japanese, and according to Nilsonne en TechCrunchthat name is a reference to the seven lives (or nine, according to other cultures) of cats.
A premium check-upNeko Health offers a £299 (€355) fee for a full body scan of your entire body for around an hour. There are also a number of additional tests and samples that the company uses to create “millions” of reference points to determine your health status in various areas such as cardiovascular and metabolic health. Included in the price is an appointment immediately after the scan with a doctor who will explain the results of the medical check-up to customers.
The business promises. The company's managers published The company recently provided a summary of the business's progress during its first year of activity. According to this data, 2,707 scans were carried out, and although 78.5% of all of them were of people without health problems, the results in 14.1% of the cases ended up directing the patient to certain treatments. In 1% of the cases, serious cardiovascular or metabolic diseases or even cancer were detected, and all those detected by this process had no news of their illness.
A scanner full of sensorsThe camera with the scanner that is the focus of the process has 70 sensors of all kinds, and after this analysis, two more scans are made, eye and blood pressure measurements are taken and a blood sample is also taken. This is the only invasive test that is carried out.
And a little bit of AI. Prevention is better than cureNeko Health's goal is prevention, whereas traditional healthcare systems focus on treating diseases that have already been contracted. The data from the analyses carried out at Neko clinics are grouped into all types of possible diseases to assess the risk we have of contracting them, from which it is possible to propose new medical tests for a more precise diagnosis.
