Top new series coming to SBS On Demand in December 2024

The Minister – season 2

In the second season of The MinisterBenedikt Ríkarðsson (Ólafur Darri Ólafsson) faces escalating political and personal challenges as he navigates his role as Icelandic Prime Minister amidst a deteriorating mental health crisis. As he grapples with his mental health, the political landscape becomes increasingly hostile. Key political figures manoeuvre to undermine his authority, each driven by their own ambitions. His return to the Ministry of Health is blocked, and he is reluctantly assigned the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Despite the extensive travel and high demands of the position, Benedikt remains committed to his political responsibilities, further straining his relationship with his wife.

The Minister season 2 premieres Thursday 5 December on SBS On Demand. Season 1 will also be available to stream from 5 December.

William Wisting is on sick leave due to a severe injury when an anonymous letter arrives in the mail. The letter leads him to a possible injustice in an old murder case where 17-year-old Tone Vaterland was killed, and her ex-boyfriend convicted. The case brings Wisting to Vilnius where he teams up with a highly skilled Interpol agent, but not everyone is pleased that new light is being shed on what has transpired. Wisting suspects he’s being undermined by powerful forces – from within the higher ranks of the police.

One month before her wedding and on the day of her long-awaited promotion, Lucía is accused of corporate espionage and fired from her job. Suddenly, her life and future take a drastic turn for the worst, as she ponders how to tell her fiancé, Basilio, that she has lost her career and, even worse, the salary that supports the family. Concurrently, Basilio, an aspiring writer, has to face the fact that he has little to fill the blank pages of his book. Unwilling to accept failure, Lucía and Basilio get themselves into a comical web of lies that will put their relationship at stake.

is back and this year the teams are heading to the beautiful country of Mexico. Our team captains Jamie Redknapp and Jill Scott will be going head-to-head in a series of epic sporting challenges. Joining them along the way are teammates Micah Richards, Mo Gilligan and Maisie Adam. They will take on a variety of exhilarating challenges as they showcase the very best Mexico has to offer. They will be joining the world-famous Day of the Dead Parade, taking penalties in front of sixty thousand football fans, and participating in a unique Lucha Libre wrestling event, plus many more unforgettable moments. Lots of Tequila will be drunk and many laughs will be had, before the loser will face the terrifying forfeit, a giant bungee swing across a desert canyon. Tune in.

In Cairo at the height of the Arab Spring, hotel night manager Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston) receives a plea for help from an elegant, well-connected guest. His actions draw him into the terrifying world of Richard Roper (Hugh Laurie), business-man, arms dealer, worst man in the world. Pine makes contact with Angela Burr (Olivia Colman), a government anti-corruption agent intent on bringing down Roper’s empire, and together they make a plan to bring down his operation from the inside.

The Head – season 3

In an abandoned military base in the middle of the desert of Bir Tawil, a lawless territory, Lauren and Rachel hire a team to continue the research on the bacteria that will combat climate change that Arthur Wilde started. As the crew begin to test the water that has been in contact with the bacteria, a strong sandstorm arises in the middle of the desert and a stranger appears at the isolated base falling unconscious from his journey. When the stranger wakes up, several murders take place and the nightmare begins again.
