The German jeans brand Mustang is now a ZDHC Signatory Brand. After two years as a “Friend of ZDHC”, Mustang is taking the next big step in “sustainable pollutant management” and intensifies its commitment toward becoming pollutant-free by following environmentally friendly textile production.
ZDHC (Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals) is an international initiative that has set the goal to eliminate the use of hazardous chemicals in the textile industry.
In addition to Mustang, leading brands such as Adidas, Nike, H&M, Levi's and the Inditex Group have already joined the initiative.
ZDHC's most important tool is the “MRSL” (Manufacturing Restricted Substance List), a list of chemicals whose use in production is restricted or prohibited. As part of its commitment, Mustang has been implementing the MRSL at its producers since 2022 and ZDHC accredited laboratories verified if Mustang and its suppliers are not actually using the banned chemicals through wastewater tests.
Through the tools provided by ZDHC, such as wastewater testing and disclosure of chemical inventories, Mustang can ensure its suppliers meet the initiative's highly requested standards. This underscores that Mustang is now officially a ZDHC Signatory Brand.
After two years as a “Friend of ZDHC”, Mustang is taking the next step in “sustainable pollutant management” and intensifies its commitment to pollutant-free and environmentally friendly textile production.
As a “ZDHC Signatory Brand”, various new opportunities are opening for Mustang: The company is now directly involved in the further development of the ZDHC programs, participates in monthly ZDHC Brand Advisory Calls and can participate in various working groups to actively help shape the future of the industry.
This also enables Mustang to work closely with other major brands, learn from best practice and actively discuss new ZDHC standards. In addition, Mustang now conducts annual self-assessments to develop its individual roadmap in the “Brand To Zero Program” and report on its progress. These self-assessments are discussed with a third-party assessor and reviewed.
With this membership, Mustang reaffirms its commitment to responsible corporate governance and sustainable action for the environment, for employees along the supply chain and for the next generation.
